Long Term Care Insurance - Monthly Feature

By Beata Everett, Long-Term Care Insurance Advisor

LifePlans recently completed a study with over 1,200 individuals currently on claim with their long-term care insurance policies. Below are some interesting findings of those surveyed:

The average age was 84 and 70% were women.

Although many times we hear horror stories about insurance claims, about 15% of the claimants said the claim-filing process was difficult while 78% said it was easy which is great news.

Only 17% of the participants were living in a nursing home, 31% in an assisted living facility and 45% were living in their private residence.

47% of the claimants said their long-term care insurance made getting their current care possible and 64% said they would have had to rely more heavily on family, friends and volunteers if they had no long-term care insurance.

Although one solution is never perfect for everyone, it is always nice to see the positive impact long-term care insurance can have for those who made the decision to purchase it. ■
