Brenda Ortiz: Our company is fortunate in that most of our caregivers never actually permanently leave us. They take on a client or several, then if another assignment is not available right away, they seek out work with other companies. We totally understand this. When a caregiver leaves for a year or more, however we are often concerned they have found a permanent “home” elsewhere.

This was the case with Brenda, so it was with surprise and delight when she called two years after leaving us, wondering if there may be a client for her. It was a case of Perfect timing!

We just so happened to have A VERY special client, a lovely young woman with a complex plan of care. We had been frustrated in our attempts to find the perfect caregiver match, since nothing less would be acceptable for this very special young lady. Suddenly, out of nowhere came BRENDA!

Since we always strive to avoid a great caregiver from slipping away, we arranged a meeting with the family and the young woman the very next DAY

Many years in healthcare have provided me with a well-developed ability to assess chemistry between a client and a caregiver (and their family). In this case it was a perfect match. As I observed her communication style, Brenda was clearly more of a listener than a talker. This is a sign of a mature, accomplished caregiver. She asked insightful questions and made astute observations.

But this lovely note from the client was perhaps the most wonderful gift a caregiver could ever hope to receive.

From Brenda’s beloved client KD:

Everything with Brenda is going great. She has a very calming and is easy to engage with despite my communication challenge. She took to the equipment right away and actually now anticipates most my needs before I ask. Brenda is real and relatable and communicates well with my sisters as my other caregivers. So far so good, we love her!
