KUDOS from Kelly

by Kelly McNamara

Angie (Sameda) Amegashi: At the risk of repeating ourselves, we are awarding this month’s Kudos to a very accomplished caregiver, one who was also our recipient in June.

Occasionally, a caregiver distinguishes herself in such a remarkable and distinctive manner that she simply rises to the top. In so many ways.

Angie currently has in her loving care a remarkable 97-year-old very distinguished lady A G, who lives in a beautiful assisted living facility. AG and her friend/caregiver Angie enjoy the many activities where AG is an accomplished painter and writer.

Angie is an attentive and astute caregiver for AG and in spite of many limitations and medical needs, she has helped maintain her beloved client at home with no trips to the hospital during her nearly two years of care. This was an especially challenging summer since it was the first summer in over 60 years that AG has not spent in her treasured seaside home in Maine. She and Angie managed the summer transition last year but AG simply was too fragile to make the long taxing trip this year.

Instead they busied themselves with the community activities, and reliving AG’s fascinating memories of her decades of Maine summers. They delighted in each other’s company. Angie enjoys hearing the amazing stories retold in such an animated manner by her beloved client, though surely by this tine she can recite them by memory. Several other clients, who have been the beneficiaries of Angie’s loving care in the past, often ask about her and wishfully request that she care for them again. Sorry, Angie is taken. She is on a very very special assignment.

All caregivers mentioned in this column will receive a gift card and our sincere appreciation! Many many thanks to all of you for once again extending yourselves to ensure that we are of course Always There…!! ■
